Yes. The Salem Witch Trials were very real. Hundreds of women were tortured and killed with very little evidence (actually, no evidence, since "real" witches don't exist, only herbalists and women who had enemies).

Yes, many of them were. Disease and other tragic events happened to the small towns of the "new world" and fear increased. They turned to blaming each other, using witchcraft to justify it.

Yes. It is debatable as to whether you would consider them real witches though.
There is actually a theory that they had something that had a drug affect, made them hallucinate etc.

yes they were they would kill many innocent people because they were thought to be practicing witch craft.so they hung them.
