I was wondering the best way to turn down a job offer? I applied for it months ago when I was unemployed, and would of gladly taken it then. However now, it is not a good fit. (Neither is my current job, but that's a different story)

Just wanted to add, that this company knows I am very unhappy with my current job. Their salary is not worth relocating for. That's the biggest hurdle.
Another thing to add, is that I am hoping to receive a much better offer by end of the year, and I would take that in a heartbeat.

Be honest with them, they will respect you for it and then ask them if they know of a place where you might be a better fit.
Since you are talking to a person already in that field, they will have other contacts and if you are kind and honest with them, I see no reason why they would not help you.
They will feel honored that you were honest with them since most people try and avoid confrontation and the truth in same situations.
Be brave and go for it.

Write a professional letter (you can do it on Microsoft Word) thanking the company for the generous offer. However, at this time, you have already accepted other employment, and wish them well in their search for a suitable candidate.

Write a letter thanking them for the opportunity, and for taking the time to meet with you. Tell them that your circumstances have changed, and you are no longer seeking employment. Thank them again in closing and Good bye!

I would give them a call to let them know. Then follow that up with a letter briefly politely declining the position and thanking them for the opportunity and for their time.

I think a letter would be the best thing to do...very polite and straightforward, thanking them for the offer but your current situation has changed etc etc
