Yes I am all for helping out those who are less fortunate, but One Thousand Dollars is not going to change a poor persons life.It will buy them some clothes, furniture, anda little food but then what????? Cold Winters,Big Bills,High Taxes. Thanks Oprah but you just teased millions of people with your question.

I think Oprah needs to get off high profile *** and donate half of her millions to the poor.... she's always talking about how "we need to make a difference"... well you fat money cow...us working people barely earn enough to live on our own..why don't you donate all the money that you have sitting around gathering dust...sell your house in Hana, Hawaii..sell all those cars you barely drive.... once you have given about 75% of your earning..then come tell me what I need to do..and why is she giving away money & gifts to regular people who have a place to live... donate that money to those who need it
Winfrey's 2006 net-worth of $1.4 billion USD placed her as the 562nd richest person in the world. ... and she has the nerve to tell hard working people to give....

Oprah actually does donate a lot to the poor and builds shelters for homeless people. There are just too many homeless/poor people in this world that it's not exactly easy to see what she has done, but in reality she has done a lot -- a lot more than a lot of other wealthy people. I mean be real guys, if you had that much money, you would like nice things for yourself. She manages to get nice things for herself and other people.
Oprah also gives to the not so needy too but the not so needy are usually her fans that are on her show often, making Oprah as rich as she is, so that she can donate as much as she did to the poor.
She is just seeing how as much and as little a 1,000 dollars could do to change your life and help it.
People look at her as this big selfish rich lady but if you actually take the time to read her biographies and what not you'll see that she has actually helped out a big deal of people and still continues to do so. So she has a lot of money, that doesn't mean she doesn't help people.
and to answer your question..
yes I do think 1,000 dollars would change a life.
I think 1,000 dollars could do a lot.
It could prevent you from being kicked out of your house..
It could bring food into your house if you don't have any..
It could just change your life on the outside such as a new hair style, some new clothes, etc...
but if Oprah asked an easy question like "could 1,000,000 dollars change your life?" that's so easy. a million dollars could ANYTHING and it's so obvious that it changes your life..
but 1000 dollars isn't that much if you think about it and it can't do everything but in ways it can do a lot.

Yes but did you see the show on Monday where it showed some of the families that the money was used for. It was awesome and
the appreciation the families showed on their faces because they got things they needed like getting furniture for this mother of 3-4 for the bedrooms, kitchen table, books and clothes, toys etc. When you do not have anything a $1000 goes along way. One school teacher helped this 68 year old man learn to read for
the first time getting him hundreds of books and what ever else
she did for him.To him that was probably worth 1 million dollars.
One lady order pizza from 3 different places and every time the
pizza was delivered she gave over a $ 200.00 tip to the person
who brought the pizza knowing they made very little money on tips. What a nice Christmas Present uh!!!

I don't think Oprah does it intentionally, but I sometimes feel intimidated by her goodwill gestures! On her show once she was asking what everyone had done that day to better the lives of someone else. I think the segment was called "What have you done today to make you feel proud." I am a stay at home mum with a reasonable income from my husbands job, but not really in the situation where i can help others financially. I realise she wasn't just talking about money but my days are pretty full, with cleaning, washing and cooking. I'm not complaining, I actually love it. As much as I would love to be out there volunteering at the local nursing home or homeless shelter, it is not possible and I went to bed that night feeling very selfish and greedy. I spoke to my husband and friends about it and we all agreed that it is actually okay to just live my life as best I can. Sure it would be lovely to have $1000 to help others, but like you said is it really enough. Is it really my responsibility to help someone else!

This slang time period is element of the cultural vernacular, and that lifestyle is the substantial element of her fan base. She is wisely attentive to what element of the bread her butter is on, in case you get my elect the flow.
