im 33 weeks pregnant, my sister is 32 weeks pregnant with her 2nd baby...she just took the famous caster oil, which she did with her first at 40 weeks. for her first baby it worked. The hole idea of castor oil scares me to death...i dont understand why she would take it this early...my question is do u think it could actually work this early? and what are the effects of having a baby born at 32 weeks

you are better off letting nature take its course. if the baby's lungs are ready it could be dramatic. don't fool with mother nature. when your further along go for a bumpy car ride and eat Chinese
worked for me 3 times

It might not make her go into labor at least one would hope that it won't. Even if she doesn't go into labor it can make the baby pass meconium and if the baby passes meconium this early it will ingest a lot of it which is not healthy. Tell your sister not to do that again and to tell her doctor about it asap.

Infants born more than 3 weeks prior to 40 weeks show physical signs of their prematurity and may develop other problems as well. Common problems in infants with severe to moderate prematurity (26 to 34 weeks) include jaundice, hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia, infant respiratory distress syndrome (IRDS), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) which is also called Chronic Lung Disease, intracranial hemorrhage, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), urinary tract infection , inguinal hernia, anemia, and rickets.

Yeah, that is crazy. The baby's lungs are not developed enough to induce labor! She should at least wait until she's considered full term. If she went into labor they'd have to inject her babies lungs with steriods while in uterio.

My doula said those things work when the body is ready. But, there is no way I'd mess around with castor oil!!

I think she is irresponsible to be taking anything to interfere with the progress of her pregnancy. Babies born as young as 22/23/24 weeks survive.
I had a 35weeks daughter who was strong and fine and home within days. So don't worry too much about the baby.
Worry about your sister though. Why is she doing something like that? And how will she cope with the baby?

Caster Oil... Did we fall back in time? Is it 1940??? Your babies will come when they are ready too, or you are induced or have a c-section.

If it works the baby will only have about a 60 to 70% chance of surviving that early. It's not safe.

I understand that after so many weeks many mothers just want it out... but it is 40 weeks for a reason - because it takes 40 weeks for a child to develop in the womb.

Yes, kids are born before and after that time, but whatever way you look at it, nature intended 40 - don't argue.

Castor oil wouldnt work unless your body is ready to have the baby...32 weeks is too early, she will end up making herself sick!

tell her NO....... because the baby's lungs are not even developed enough to breath on thier own yet..... the baby could be still born or even die after birth because it will not even be able to breath...... The reason it worked at 40 weeks was because the lungs were developed and mature and it was ready to come...... Tell her to wait and let nature take it's course... If not she may not like the ending.....

no the baby wouldnt be too premature to live he would be small though and be at risk for pooping in his amniotic fluid and be prone to infection as a result of the castor oil. Its kind of scary all sorts of things could go wrong.

She is nuts. She could have a baby that is too premature to live. Terrible.
