I am a computer technician and I have both a Mac and a PC and I vote PC because it is easier to get repair and/or upgrade parts.
Macs are good machines and for art or music programs they are better than PCs. But, if something goes wrong with one, it can be hard to find a repair depot. And there is a learning curve to using the Mac which can be frustrating.
If you are into games a PC is better because if you get one with industry standard parts (not proprietary like Dell, HP, etc.) upgrades are easier. (and staying cutting edge is important to a gamer.) It is also easier to get industry standard parts for repair.
PCs are also what most of us are used to, so there is no learning curve.

I tell you what, I love a pc. easy to work on and very cheap finding the right one, but i will tell you something.... A mac is hard to beat, use it abuse it and it keeps asking for more. Macs are tough and you can get linux or Win XP on them so if you are really considering it, again i love P.C.s but the Mac is better in the overall durability. IF nothing else choose an H.P. if you want to go with a P.C. that way, no matter what you choose will be a good choice

Mac since you can run ever Windows PC program out there plus all of the other Mac programs as well.
To run a PC Program on a Mac you have 2 awesome choices
1) Parallels VM - http://www.parallels.com/ - runs Windows on a VM at 95% of the overall speed from running it natively.
2) Bootcamp - http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ -- runs Windows natively, and faster than many other PC systems.
Enjoy.
