:I might illustrate the difference this way- a smart engineer for a locomotive has the smartness by knowing-
1. The speed the engine is capable of moving safely --does that mean he will be careful?
2. Knows how to tabulate the steam pressure in order to have enough coal to reach Tahoe.--but will he keep an eye on the gauges to keep at the right speed and not stall out on the way.
3. He knows that they train can plow through most snows on the tracks but will he have the wisdom to recognize the danger in driving through snow drifts
A wise engineer knows :
1. What to do if there is danger in the boiler and knows how to do the right thing at the right time to avert any overheating.
2. He knows the safe speed of the train & maintains that safe speed & keeps an eye on the guages to adjust speeds so he will not run out of coal
3.If there are heavy snows and drifts pile up he is careful to exercise wisdom to either continue at a slower pace or maybe stop because of the danger.

smart means brains
i think wise is to do with common sense, it doesn't mean you have to have letters after your name, degrees as long as your arm, but to know what is right and wrong and be able to make it clear
