No, not really. I guess for some reason the Americans find the English accent to he a 'serious' one.
What I find amusing though, is how bad films try to do the same and end up with a villain with an obviously fake 'evil' English accent when they are clearly not.

I'm American, second-gen Brit, with a mean fake Brit accent.
It's a compliment in a backhanded way. Americans are obsessed with the regal and educated nature of the particular accents used.
You don't hear any of these villains speaking in Cockney, after all!
I'd prefer there were more positive characters in Upper Brit, I guess, now that you ask, though!
