Nice thought but it will never happen. Bench hasn't been part of the game for a long time. And even if he got involved with the game he would most likely become part of the Reds organization.

Johnny Bench would be an asset to any team. But if he had any interest in the travel, he would be with the Reds. I remember seeing him interviewed on TV a few years ago, he said he had no interest in giving up his life now to do that. He has been away from the travel for over 20+ years. It is doubtful that he would want to start that up again as he approaches 60 years old.

why would you suggest johnny bench for a mets coaching position?

as it is, the mets have an opening for a 3rd base coach since manny acta was hired to manage the washington nationals. lee mazzilli has been rumored to be a candidate although the mets have three internal candidates up for consideration, ken oberkfell, howard johnson and hall of fame catcher gary carter.

My first choice would be Lou Pinella. But, inasmuch as Pinella has already signed with Chicago, I could easily live with Johnny Bench.

Johnny Bench is a great credit to the game of baseball.
