STEP ONE: STEAM
The first step is to steam your skin in order to clear the pores of your skin. When your day is done, use a facial steamer or just soak a washcloth with steaming water, wring lightly and bring the cloth close to your face. Steam your face for 1-1/2 minutes. Let the steam penetrate to fully open your pores.

STEP TWO: CLEANSE
With your pores open, next splash warm water on your face and neck. Pour or work the appropriate amount of skin cleanser into your hands, then mix with some water to work it into a creamy lather. Massage this onto your wet face. Using your fingertips or a soft complexion brush, in a circular motion delicately massage your face for about 30 seconds, making sure to include your neck area. Then rinse with warm water and gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel. A tip: always try to use a cleanser specially formulated for cleansing your face rather than a generic kind of soap. And be careful to avoid the delicate skin around your eyes.

STEP THREE: TONE
Dampen a piece of cotton with an alcohol-free toner and gently wipe your entire face and neck area. (Alcohol-based toners have a damaging and drying effect on the skin). This step lifts away any residue that you might have missed and also closes your pores, preparing your skin for its moisturizing treatment. Alcohol-free toners are far gentler on your skin, which is especially important during the winter months. At this point, your face should now be squeaky clean.

STEP FOUR: MOISTURIZE
In an upward, circular motion, now apply a small amount of a moisturizer of your choice to your face and neck areas. Do not over apply, as too much can be worse for your skin. Only when your skin has been properly cleansed can your moisturizer work to condition, moisten and protect your complexion. Choose moisturizers, which have anti-aging ingredients and vitamins added to it.

Different types of skin require different types of treatment. For me though it would be Biore (I have semi-dry skin) beauty products. All I do is wash my face once a day in their ice cleanser and I am blemish free. However, I had to try out several different cleansers before I found the one that worked for me.

Good luck!

Edit: A poster below me said acnefree....if proactive makes your skin too dry then acnefree definitely will. It completely dried out my skin (though it did get rid of the zits).

Proactiv works if your skin is really oily -- otherwise, it dries it out WAY too much. I use the Beauticontrol system, and it works really well.

ok, i don't know what kind of system you're talking about, but i use proactiv for acne and it WORKS. seriously. that and my oil of olay moisturizer for sensitive skin w/ spf, and i am set for 2 months for about $50. proactiv is $40 / mo, but it lasts me 2 and the oil of olay bottle lasts me 2 months as well for the great price of $10 : )

try proavtiv. its the only thing that cleared up my skin and ive been using it for 4 years. the only thing is that you have to stick with it or your face will break out again. its a little expensive, but a really good investment--nothing compares to having clear skin!
