When I got my period( I was 11) my mom would buy my pads, and I noticed that they would sting too and make me kind of red and itchy. The problem could be you are using fragrance pads, and if you have sensitive skin like I do that isn't going to work to well. SO I started using my own pads(non fragrance).

Oh yeah when I wanted to start wearing tampons my mom refused to get them and she made me hold them(I am 14 and still a little scared to go down "the aisle"). Personally I know you are doing sports but I would wait b/c your body is just starting to give off signals. You are becoming a young lady you might just need to watch these signals. SO if you fell a little sick and you are just beginning your period and using tampons you won't know if these signals are normal or not. I understand that your friends may have started their periods too but their body sends off different signals. And everyone if is different so you can't always go by what people say b/c their signals are different.

Well it sounds like you are allergic to whatever is in the pads for one thing. If you are going to use them then get a fragrance free type. I personally do not use tampons because I have never minded pads. I played Softball too and never had any problems.
Tampons are great when you are at your heaviest in your cycle.
They go in easy and come out easy. It's just about personal preference.

Tampons are safe and 100% more comfortable, especially while playing sports. The only thing you need to watch out for is that you don't keep the tampon in for too this, as this can result in toxic shock syndrome and that can be fatal. When using a tampon for the first time, make sure you buy th thinnest ones possible, and make sure you relax while inserting it to make sure it goes in properly. Good luck!
And if you want to stick with pads, i know there are very thin pads on the market but i know the absorption isn't the best but they are more computable than the big diaper looking ones!!

I'm with you girl! I hate tampons because they leach bleach, Dioxin, and other chemicals into your bloodstream and can cause TSS.

To get rid of pads you do have another option, and it's actually really awesome. I wasn't sure when I first tried them but now I love them!

It's called a menstrual cup. There are several varieties.

Starting with the disposible kind...

It's called "instead" and you can get it at your local Walmart type store.

Non-disposible

The Keeper and The Moon Cup...I'd advise against the keeper because it's latex. The moon cup is medical grade silicone. See them both here: http://www.keeper.com/

The Diva cup is a nice one as well... http://www.divacup.com/

They are easy to use and great for athletic people like you and I. The best part is that NO cases of TSS have ever occurred from menstrual cups...much safer than tampons.

Tampons can be scary at first- I know how you feel. I am the same age as you. The first time I used one, I left the cardboard on. If pads aren't working for you, try Slimfit Tampons by Playtex. They are made for beginners. Tampons are safe, but make sure you change them every 6-8 hours at maximum. If you are heavy, you should change every 4 hours maximum, to avoid TSS (toxic shock syndrome). TSS is talked about in the little paper found in boxes of tampons. You should talk to your doctor about the rash from pads.

Pads shouldn't be itchy. Try switching brands. If you have been using scented pads, switch to unscented ones and see if that helps. I like Stayfree Maxi Pads and Kotex. You might be very sensitive down there, so you might even want to consider pads from a health food store (if available) that are not treated with any bleaches or potent chemicals.

Tampons are very safe, I can recommend them!

I hope I helped!

Tampons are safe if you use the right kind and wear them for only about four or five hours at a time. I've heard that if you use the organic kind(non-bleached), you have nothing to worry about, because they have no chemicals.

I use "Always" pads, they (to me) are about as comfy as they get.

I hate pads, too, and wish my mom would let me use tampons, so you are lucky that you have that option.

since ur in softball buy an extra pair of sliders that are a size smaller. wear those when u get ur period instead of the sliders u usually wear. this helps the pad stay in place. wings on pads help A LOT to

I like pads that do not contain any fragrance and that stay in place, so I buy something with wings.
Tampons aren't that scary and they come in a slender size.
