My son is seven months old and he will not take his bottle. He will eat his formula with a spoon if I mix it with rice. Do you think that I should quit giving him bottles and give him his formula either in a sippy cup or spoon feed him? He also seems to still like his pacifier.

My nine month old will refuse a bottle sometimes too. I usually just dump it in a sippy cup. There is no harm in offering him his milk in a sippy cup. Actually, you can start using a sippy cup at four months (did this with mine). I introduced the cup with water after his bottle.

Also, I'd just let him alone with the binky. Count it as a blessing. Both these things had to go at one point and he's letting you know he's ready.

If you don't have a sippy cup - the small Avent ones where great for my guy when first learning. The cup portion was just right for his hands. And, if he wasn't sure about the cup then there were handles. You can slowly graduate him to a cup with a straw (like the Munchkin cup).

Try just giving him the sippy cup and keep on feeding him with a spoon. Try solid foods if you have not already done so. My daughter, who is now 11 months old, was like that. I talked to her doctor and she said to just give her the sippy cup. All you have to do is mix the formula and put it in the sippy cup.

I would hope by now you are already spoon feeding him. Begin giving him a sippy cup to see if he likes it, there are all different ones to look at with all different kinds of tops, you may have to get a few to see which top he likes best. And about the pacifier just take it away, throw it away or pack it up.

He needs more liquid than you could spoon feed him. He also needs to remember suction one way or another. So if he absolutely won't take a bottle, try a sippy cup. But that suction motion is still most likely going to be the way he drinks for at least the next year so keep giving him his liquids through bottle or My 1st Sippy.

I think that he may be ready to try using a straw cup or a sippy cup. Both of my children were off of the bottle before they were 9 months old. My pediatrician said that was perfectly fine so long as they were still getting their normal amount of formula a day. I do not advise that you only give it in the cereal. He needs the cereal but he needs the formula in a liquid for to prevent him from becoming dehydrated. I hope this helps.

Try a nipple with a different flow speed.

Try giving him the bottle with a cold nipple maybe his teething is affecting him taking his bottle.

As long as he is hydrated and getting liquids from his foods it isn't that big of a deal.

A sippy cup with a very small amount of liquid should be okay.

Spoon feeding could be tedious and messy so you could actually try a never medicinally used dropper syringe instead, just take it easy on the amount you press it down each time. (I had to do this with my youngest now 3 1/2).

Good luck!

You could try a sippy cup with supervision. He may be advanced for his age...especially with wanting to give up the bottle. In the long run, it will probably save you some dental dollars. Kids who use a bottle too long run the risk of cavities, and, even though they are baby teeth, you still have to get them fixed or they hurt.

Good Luck with that Big Boy!!!

He could drink the formula from a sippy cup.

You should contact your sons doctor and take him off the pacifier and stop giving him the formula like that it not very health . Also it a sign that you can take him off the bottle and on to fun sippy cups.... Don't forget to contact your doctor as soon as possibly.

I woukdn't recommend a sippy cup, but you can cut the slit in the nipple of the baby bottle a little wider so that he can get the formula mixed with cereal throught it, or you can just continue to spoon feed him. Does he take water from a bottle? The poor lil thing will have to get thirsty sooner or later! Babies are so unpredictable! lol

yes. be thankful. you r supposed to take away the bottle at one year anyway. but it may be because he is teething and the sucking hurts. if he isnt eating well and is fussy. have your dr rule out an ear infection as well. he is not too young for a sippy cup....he should ne able to use one by now well. if it is just that he doesnt want a bottle go ahead and wean him
