Firstly, The Crucible is an American play by a contemporary playwright, Arthur Miller.

Nextly, the Ages of British Lit is typically divided this way (some dates are flexible):
1. Roman Occupation and Anglo-Saxon (55BC-AD1066
2. Medieval Period (AD1066-AD1485)
3. The Renaissance, Elizabethan, Jacobean Periods (AD1485-AD1660)
4. Neoclassical, Restoration Period(AD1660-AD1798)
5. Romantic Period (AD1798-1832)
6. Victorian Age (AD1832-AD1901)
7. The 20th Century, Modern, Post-modern Period (AD 1901-now)

American Literature is typically divided this way, again dates can fluctuate and some periods overlap:
1. Pre-Colonial Period (before AD 1620)
2. Puritan, Colonial Period (AD 1620-1750)
3. Revolutionary Period, Age of Reason (AD 1750-1820)
4. Romantic Period (AD 1820-1860)
5. American Renaissance, Transcendentalism (AD 1840-1860)
6. Realism, War/Post-War (AD 1855-1914)
7. Modern, Postmodern, Contemporary Period (AD 1910-now)

Hope that helps.
