Well, there's number (as in Dave Matthews Band's "#41") and there's also sharp (in reference to a musical note) as in Dropping Daylight's "C#".

It just means that there's a denotement for the track, maybe it's an alternate track or a demo version. Some people when entering the info into online databases put pound signs there, despite the fact the accompanying inforamtion isn't there.

it could mean that there is more then one song of that title or the compooper might e lazy like mau and put # for number
