She had died as Jack had told her in the water, as an old lady, safe and warm in her bed.

No one knows if Rose dies at the end of the movie or is just dreaming. However at the end of the movie when she is at the staircase the song "My Heart Will Go On" starts to play. in the song it says "Every night in my DREAMS I see you. I feel you..." The song might imply that Rose is only dreaming. However in a comentary at the end of the film director and co-producer James Cameron states : "Now, of course, the big ambiguity here is, 'Is she alive, and dreaming?', or 'Is she dead, and on her way to Titanic heaven, here?' And of course, I'll never tell. I mean, I know what we intended at the time. But that doesn't mean I have to go blurting it out. So, I know you've gone and bought this, you know, expensive special edition DVD, and you were, you know, hoping for the answer. But, the answer is, has to be something that you supply personally, individually."

Onlyupfrmhere is right!
Excuse my intrusion, but somebody here did something very sweet and generous for me today, and I don't know how else to get hold of her. I looked up her profile. She hasn't asked any questions yet, so this is the best I can do. She knows who she is.
God bless you, Anne!
My sister Laura has breast cancer. They caught hers too late. Even before this with her and Lana, I wore the pink bracelets. Now they hit very close to the heart for me.
My sister's had a good and rich life. To have asked anything for her might have seemed too selfish. We don't like it, but we accept it. She's also a very generous and giving person.
Lana's very poor and she's already "paid it forward" her whole life. She never asks anything for herself. I figured the only way she'd ever let anybody do anything else for her was if somebody who would never miss it (like the saintly Oprah) would give it to her. Even then, Oprah would probably have to promise Lana she'd do it for somebody else, too, or she'd never allow it. Believe me, I know her and I've tried and tried.
I edited my answer to make it a little better. I was afraid some of it might come across wrong, even though I tried hard to do my best the first time. I think it sounds a little better now.
I've been writing and redoing this all afternoon. I have to get up and go to work in less than an hour, so I'd better finish here!
Thanks for paying it forward, Anne! God bless you. I hope we can make a difference in somebody's life.

I'm sorry for the intrusion. And I'm sure Rose is reunited with Jack, her loved one, and they're so happy in Heaven! Lana will never leave me, either. I'll try hard to be good.

lol, I asked the same question a few days ago too! Apparently, yes she died and went to heaven where she met up with Jack at the staircase. If you look at the crowd around her, those are other people who also died on the Titanic. That is one of my all-time favourite movies! Makes me cry like a baby everytime.

Rose dies in the end at an old age after telling the divers her story. This is implied by seeingheron the staircase and meeting jack and the rest of the passengers who died in the sinking.

I thought the old lady who was telling the story was Rose, so I think she was dreaming.

ROSE IS ALIVE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE AND SHE'S ABOUT 100 YEARS OLD, SO NO, SHE DIDN'T DIE AT THE STAIRCASE.
