Tell them how much you appreciate their courage to keep us all safe here
How seeing them and knowing they're overseas fighting has made you realize how important soldiers are
How it feels good knowing there are so many people not willing to give up on keeping their country safe and protected
Let them know you hope they stay safe and that they're able to return soon

This is a wonderful project you have no idea what it is like for those guys to get mail. It keeps them going. Just tell them how much you appreciate what they are doing for your freedom. Write it from your heart and it will be great. I am a military wife and I can't tell you how wonderful it is of your school doing this project. Our men are so far away all of the time and when they get mail be it a card or a package it's just a reminder there are people back home waiting and thinking of them. Hope your letter turns out the way you want it. Good luck and God Bless.

I love this project, I've had to do it on a few occasions. Keep in mind that they aren't up to date on whats going on a home. Right about some current events. I would try and avoid the topic of the army. By writing the letter you are showing support. Keep it down to one or two sentences to talk about how you support what they are doing, and how brave they are.
Talk about the weather outside, is it cold? is it snowing? raining?
Add some good riddles or jokes. Maybe write a short story (a comedy!) and include it. Anything to make them laugh and enjoy their day. Draw a picture (if your a good artist) or maybe be just draw a sun.
These soldiers are deployed, living in Iraq, Afghanistan, or other Middle Eastern countries. Its not that great over there. Try to be humurous, cute, anything!
Have fun! Enjoy it your project!

that's a great project, my friend & two cousins who i lived with growing up are all currently over fighting the war in iraq and i know when they get letters from anyone it means the world to them. i also write letters to other soldiers in their troops and i usually send goodie bags for halloween and the holidays, but honestly anything you write really makes their day. write it from the heart and just let them know that you truly regard them as examples of american heroism and that you're extremley grateful for them and the freedoms they protect for the rest of americans. also, if you're sending it before the holidays, most of them have to stay overseas for the holidays so a simple happy holidays at the end of the letter is also nice. my friend says he loves hearing about the latest news and current events and even just writing a little bit about yourself makes it interesting. just write it from the heart & i'm sure you'll make someone's day ; )
also for anyone else www.letsaythanks.com is a great website that xerox is sponsoring and it takes two minutes to go there and write a postcard and xerox will print it out free of charge and send it to our troops overseas. thanks!
