I have a 1991 Chevy S10 and want to start working on vehicles myself to get knowledge of their ins and out. Is there an easy thing I can do to increase horsepower for a guy just starting out? And how do I do it? What are some basic repairs and modifications I can do to get started with doing my own work?

theres not alot of things you can really changeon it withouthaving to modify the PROM in the computer, having the PROM burned for performance is a cheaper way of getting some more performance out of a stock or relatively stock engine, better intake system and better exhaust system are good starters, including but not limited to catback exhaust system and the K&N filter and so on

power costs $$$ and can get really expensive really quick and if you dont do it right you can have some real problems with it, with the computers ability to run the engine correctly that is

more power = more fuel usage also, be prepared to lose some fuel mileage, in most all cases,

better injectors, a higher pressure/volume pump, and other parts help increase power

good luck

buy a v-8 conversion kit from a performance store, they are cheap for these trucks, find an old chevy with a good running v-8, find one with a bad or rusty body, follow the instructions that come with the kit , this is the easiest engine swap there is
