Algebra Homework. How do you do this problem?

Question

you drove 350 miles last week and used 12.5 gallons of gasoline. How many gallons of gas will you use if you drive 520 miles this week?

Ok here you go. I think this is right

YOu take 12.5 and divide by 350 that is .035 and some extra but most teachers only really want you to do up to a few numbers on a dec. so I will say .035. That tells you how much gas you used PER mile. Then all you do is take the .035 and multiply by 520 and you get 18.2 gallons.

So the answer is 18.2

You need to find your miles per gallon. Divide your number of gallons into your miles 350/12.5
This gives you miles/gallon. Let's call it MPG
Now take your new miles and DIVIDE by your MPG

520 divide by MPG

or you can multiply by the INVERSE.

(520 miles) (12.5 gallons)

this is divided (350 miles)

doing this will cancel out your miles and leave you with gallons.

And no, I am not going to do the figuring--I bet you have a calculator!!
