Elections are held every two years in November. Representatives are elected to 2-year terms, and Senators are elected to 6-year terms. Thus, the entire House is up for election every Election Day. However, the election of Senators is staggered - only 1/3 of the Senate is up for election at a time. The new session of Congress starts the January after Election Day. The upcoming Congress is the 110th.

actually, a new session of congress starts every two years in January. The 110th Congress will commence in Jan. 2007.
