They can be repaired but only if they are not the driver's line of vision. Repairing stone chips stop the crack spreading but they are still slightly visible. If you take the car to a glass repair centre they will advise you. If you look on your insurance policy there will be a number to ring and they will tell you which glass repairer they use. If the crack is repairable then you do not pay anything as it is covered by your insurance. If the crack is not repairable then you might need a new windscreen and that would cost whatever your screen excess is on your policy.

Trying to fix a chip can cause the screen to crack completely and the screen will need replacing if this happens. Check with the repair company before thay start, see if they guarantee that this will not happen in your case or you could be in for a big bill. Most repairs are very effective but remember if you do need a new screen that the car will have to be left parked for a couple of hours for the compound to set. The repairer will advise you.

Yes. I had a bloke come out to my house and fix mine because I had an MOT due and the chip was right in my line of vision. You couldn't even see where it'd been (and I knew where it was!). It passed it's MOT, and when I sold the car a couple of years later, the repair was still not visible.

It's better than leaving it and allowing your screen to crack but you can always see where it has been repaired
