Is it easy to replace the cd/dvd burner in my HP Pavilion notebook computer? And what kind should i get?

If the built-in optical drive in your Pavilion notebook is modular/removable, remove it and there should be a "spare part#" on the drive. Use this part# to order a replacement. Usually your options are limited when replacing optical drives in notebooks and you may not be able to upgrade.

Type in your product name and number and click on Manuals then click on Troubleshooting and Self-Repair Guide. The guide is in PDF format so make sure that you have Adobe Acrobat installed.

If you're willing to go external, look into finding an external drive with a USB 2.0 connection. Then you won't have to mess around with opening up your laptop.

As long as it has a normal face on it you can just swap them out, get the kind that does the 2 sided burning of dvd's it is really cool

if you have a modular drive bay, pull the release slider under the laptop and take it out. Look around for a replacement, probably with the same model number.
