After travelling to States a couple times I've noticed that less educated people or those who belong to lower middle class had the tendency to display the american flag in front of their houses wherever I went (especially in the poor areas). At the same time the rich and/or educated people don't bother with it. Is it because the lower class is that brain-washed to believe that this is an act that shows their patriotism? Or are they not sure where they are and need to remind themselves of it?
I understand doing it at an international sport event like olympics but why do it at home?

The rich are too busy trying to stay rich. They don't have time to appreciate what they have because they are too busy worrying about keeping it and making more.

The poor person has more time to appreciate that he/she lives in a country where people can have differences of opinions and voice them, without being summarily shot or banished. The poor person or middle class have more time to enjoy what they have. They take the time to enjoy their familes instead of working 20/7 to get ahead. They know that family and country are important: in that order.

I can't believe this is a phenomena that is relegated to the United States, alone. On television news programs we see other residents of other countries doing exactly the same thing.

Americans from all educational levels display the flag. Most of America's history is positive, some is shameful. Still, this is believed to be the land of opportunity and freedom of expression. Americans don't need to remind ourselves where we live any more than you need to remind yourself where you live. (You didn't tell us where you're from.) How many rich neighborhoods did you visit.... or were they all lower class? Why would it bother you that we fly our flag?

I think it is because some people are proud of their country, warts and all. Those of the upper classes are more concerned with not offending others or being able to say to others, "well, I disagree with all that patriotism. I'm an independent thinker".

I think stereotyping Americans or anyone else is just ethically wrong.

You don't have to be "uneducated" or "educated" to want to fly the American flag, or whatever nation's flag you feel like.

Patriotism is not limited to economic class. It is the sign of someone that is proud to live in the country that they do. I am sure there are plenty of "rich" people in the US that fly the flag in their yards, too.

Ignorant tourists to our country like you are what makes it so difficult to get around here. If you don't like what you see when you visit, stay home!

People are showing their patriotism and love for their country. Which is acceptable at any social or income level.

Because they want to. It's not bothering anyone. Who cares? There's much more important things going on in the world.

Yes, they are brain-washed. They think that proves the US is the greatest country in the world. Forget the fact that we are near the bottom in nearly every category.
