I'd have to say PSP, because once you're spoiled onto watching video on the larger PSP screen, you'll look at the ipod screen and think twice...PSP has the better graphics engine for viewing video...but if you're more into listening to music, i'd go with the ipod.
Price is about a $50 difference depending on where you buy...$200 for the PSP, and about $250 for a 30GB video ipod...
Overall though, the PSP would be the best choice ultimately for universal appeal, since you can view video, listen to MP3's, view pictures, play video games, browse the internet...and lots more stuff in the future...

Hehe...well i personally have a video iPod, however I won't be objective with this answer.
Video iPods use the latest video compression technology, something called H.264 compression. I know you're asking, "So what does that mean in terms of graphics?" This translates to about 320x240 pixels for videos, an amazing amount for a screen size of about 2 x 1.5 inches. The PSP has a resolution of about 480x272 but with a screen size of 4.5 x 2 inches, much bigger than that of the Vpod (the entire Ipod is about the size of the screen on the PSP). However, both of these machines have EXCELLENT graphics, you couldn't go wrong with either.
PSPs are still running for around $200 depending where you get one, but Sony officials are hinting at a price drop for the holidays (you might be in luck! ;) ) The Vpod sells for $249 for the 30GB (holds 7,500 songs, 25,000 photos or 40 hours of video) or you could spring for the 80GB that holds a whopping 20,00 songs, too many photos to count (the apple website actually doesnt list a number for the photos!) and 100 hours of video!
Well my fingers are sore...hope that helped a lil'

That's comparing apples to oranges.
The PSP is mainly video-games, its video feature being just a neat perk.
The video iPod is mainly for music, with videos still in development in my opinion.
Video-wise, the PSP has the larger screen and obviously better graphix card.

Get a PSP you'll rwally enjoy it. It can play games, it has good graphics. It can play videos, has internet, and it has a mp3 inbuilt so you download songs. Both are about the same priced.
