There are several different problems in The Secret Garden altogether. Mary doesn't know how to be independent and responsible because her parents don't treat her as a human being. Colin is trapped in his room and is never allowed to do anything, because every one says he's ill, although he really isn't. Colin's father doesn't want nearly anything to do with his son or the house, so he goes away on trips all the time, and never spends any time with his son. And then there's the garden, which the children want to go into, but can't, because Colin's father doesn't want the garden to be remembered as it reminds him of his dead wife.

Are you referring to the Frances Hodgson Burnett book?
In the book, there isn't one problem. Each character has a problem:
Mary doesn't know how to be an independent girl because her parents and the servants treated her like an object.
Colin is trapped in a room like a caged animal and treated like some sort of medical experiment instead of being allowed to run and play.
Colin's father is always away, too afraid to even look upon his surviving child, a constant reminder of his wife's death.
Then there's the garden... once the property of Colin's mother, the lady of the creepy manor. It has fallen into disrepair after she died there.
Take your pick.

This is not just a joke, it is great and if women would realize that this is how man is -- a flawed creature, with many, many, many bad traits. So often we hear about women who are so disappointed about men, "cheating," on them, but man is not very smart anyway, and we are flawed, very flawed.
