You will not likely get a mpg increase, but you will get better throttle response - i.e. the car will go sooner when you slam on the gas (less hesitation).
One of the main things about improving the ducting into the engine is to get more colder air into the engine for combustion. By having more cooler air, the car will respond better, but the engine computer will not use appreciably more fuel to run.
If you were using a forced induction method like a turbo or super charger, you would use a bit more fuel, but again, its not appreciable.

No it will not do any thing but trick your stock computer into making your engine run richer which will decrease your fuel economy and make your car slower. The reason why it does this is because new car's are designed to have every part of the car work together but once you change some thing ("short Ram intake") than you will decrease the power out put of the engine and decrease fuel economy because your cars MAP sensor is now reading more air volume than it was designed for so the end result is that the computer know does not know how much air is actually entering the engine and this causes the engine to run rich(to much fuel to air mixture). You might even get a rotten egg smell coming from your car after hard acceleration or when you come to a sudden stop. The only thing that you will gain is that your car will sound louder that's it no HP increase and no MPG increase. If you really want to get better fuel economy than just keep your car in top runing condition. You can do this by doing regular maintenance and keep your fuel system clean.

i comprehend this reply isnt as diffused as each and every of the others although because of the particular incontrovertible actuality that u do live in maine its attractive chilly up there already perfect so u would besides follow quick ram intake in view that the single u dont favor to harass it with taking the front bumper off and a couple of it doesnt have that top of possible of hydroloking. And no remember what dont get a bypass of blow off valve. sensible it prevents hydroloking although then it eliminates the which technique of even having an oem intake thinking of what little vigor u get from the intake it really is going to all be absolved by ability of the blowoff or bypass valve so theres no longer gonna be any aspect of dropping ur money with an intake if ur gonna upload a blowoff valve afterwards so what i recommend when you think about that u live in chilly air already get the fast ram intake.

when you are using a short ram intake the filter is placed directly inside the engine compartment with intake air being pulled from the engine compartment. this is not a good thing because the air inside the engine compartment is a lot hotter than elsewhere. the stock intake piping pulls air from a source of cooler air like the inner fender. i would have installed a cold air intake that uses bigger intake piping and pulls air from the front bumper

if it increases air flow then it will surely increase fuel useage also because more volume of air means more fuel needed to mix into the increased air volume in order to be the correct ratio
although the amount of fule injected into the engine will depend on information recieved by various sensors including the TPS and O2 and MAF and so forth, the MAF is in the intake ducting
the 02 is in the exhaust
the TPS is on the throttle assembly
there are some others too, on most engines
good luck

Doug, while this is true, an intake system likely would not have a downside overall for the car. Because the engine can breathe better, it is likely to make the engine more efficient in producing power. this means that it would take less fuel to make the same amount of power, which would likely result in better fuel mileage. It remains yet to be seen if it is noticable, however.
Another point that should be considered is is you bought it, then realized your newfound horsepower, which usually leads one to drive faster and in effect burn up more fuel :)
