I have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. My Check engine light has been on for a very long time. Pep Boys has fixed everything so far totaling $789.00. Now they tell me that i have to get my Mass Air Flow Sensor replaced. I want to know is there a way that i can test it to see if it has gone bad?

it sounds like they have just guessed at replacing things and only have that left, mass air flow sensors can be tested with the diagnostic tools at the dealership,a basic scan tool will not give voltage signals and parameters for diagnosing, just fault codes and if it was there all along they shouldnt be just telling you now
good luck

A good basic check, would be while the vehicle is running, is to just lightly tap on the mass air flow sensor with your knuckles. Just be careful. It always works on the GM products. When you tap on them lightly, it will make the engine flutter abruptly. Quite often a check engine light will lead to one of the oxygen sensors, if you have not already replaced them.

Go to AutoZone and have them put it on an analyzer. You could try taking the negative battery terminal off for a few seconds, this may reset the computer module. PepBoys may have fixed the problem and it just needs to be reset, but the analyzer test should tell.
