Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers (mother/daughter) were fans of the work of Carl Jung. The US entry into World War II (1941) motivated Isabel Briggs Myers to develop a personality instrument based on Jung's work to help people get a better fit between themselves and their jobs, (and conficts in general). She developed the first pen & pencil test, the mother/daugher team tested it on friends and family.

to piss people off and pidgeon hole them into low paying careers so that the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor.

it is complete bullshit....I've faked myers briggs tests, which is supposedly impossible to do...

if i remember right, first they noticed it then developed it.
they were really interested in the subject and people.
