the first thing is a square and you cut of a corner. You are left with a pentagon.
so it should be like this
"I have this square with 4 corners on it, if I cut off one corner it then has five sides."

It is a 2-dimensional shape. If you cut the corner of a quadrilateral, you will end up with an irregular pentagon, and if you cut the corner of a pentagon, you'll get a hexagon, and so on.
