Our dishwasher has been leaking out on the floor for awhile.. about a year and 3 months..
It's a GE potscrubber 650

we've had it since 1996... my dad has tried to fix it, but he has a bad back and cant do a lot with it..

He wants to just go out and buy a new one.. I suggested that we have it fixed. He says "no because there will just be a 50$ service charge and probably an expensive part"

Does anyone know of any problems that might be wrong with it?

Like specific parts or anything?

He says it might be the seal or motor or pump...

thanks so much

buy a new one. you will pay more repairing it than you would to buy a brand new one.

Don't go out and buy a new one just yet. These things will pull out from the counter top a little way(maybe a foot or more) open the door and look up from beneath the top of the door. There should be two smaller screws holding it to the counter top--to pull the dishwasher out you may have to pull down on the little tabs that held the screws. Now with the dishwasher out let it run and try to see where the water is coming from--it may be you have a leaking hose which would need to be replaced even if you bought a new dishwasher, or it might be a little plastic water pump which is not that hard to replace and not all that expensive.

If it has been leaking for over a year and you did not call the repairman out to fix it why would you want to do that now? Just go get a new one it is not worth kicking a dead horse.

dishwashers are like toasters. they are disposable. why spend $125 repairing when you can get a new one for $150. the repaired one has no warranty and is going to break again.

i might could examine it or be responsive to extra information approximately it. i might say an previous hose leaking or a nasty seal. whether that's previous i might say dry rot on the hoses. they choose to chop up proper the place they hook up with a gadget.
