I too have a really bad phobia of balloons. I'm ok with the helium ones, but the rubber ones REALLY freak me out. I just can't go near one whether it's been blown up or not.
I thought I was weird by having this phobia (called globophobia), but there are some things that can be done to overcome this. Such as hypnotherapy, cognitive behaviour therapy (deconditioning - a gradual exposure to the feared item) etc.

I've not met anyone with a 'phobia' about them, but I recently read an article and then later watch a video of people (seemingly ALL females too!) with something approach a 'fetish' about / incorporating balloons!
This is was completely new to me.
Sorry though, cant help, but thought that this info might just be 'interesting' to you. And, of course, if not, then you are free to totally and utterly disregard it.
Sash.

A friend I used to work with had a Phobia of balloons, and still has.
My brother had a terrible fear of spiders. When he decided he was moving to Australia he had to find some way of dealing with it, so he went to a hypnotist, and it worked. He is still bothered by spiders, but he can control it and deal with the situation, he has even managed to get one the size of a T plate out of the house. My advice, Hypnosis.

I've only recently developed this fear of balloons (last 6 months), I work in a bar and have to blow up balloons for the tables but now can't because I vertually have panic attacks when they pop. It's horrible and scares the crap out of me.
I'm lucky enough that I'm the Deputy Manager and can delegate this task on to others now.

I have heard of this and dare say there's even a scientific name for it, (but I can't find it!) Part of it is to do with the noise they make when they pop and part is the smell/feel etc.
Traditional ways to overcome phobias include hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and desensitization.
Start with a visit to the General Practitioner (and in the meantime avoid kids parties etc!) Good luck!

I couldn't say that I have a phobia about balloons but I definitely dislike them. I think its definitely to do with the noise if they are burst, and they annoy me in general whether they are inflated, or not. Poxy things. Should be banned.

a very clever way is to play more loud music every day to get them used to quick loud noises. If it is the noise they are afraid of. If it is the look of the balloons, when they are drunk or are tired, make they hold a balloon and see how long they last before they let go.
