"I have plans that I can't reschedule"

Well, that is why they have Caller ID, so, when you see the phone and it tells you that it is your job, you do not have to pick it up. But, knowing me, I would becuase I want to see what they wanted. If they tell me that I have to come in, I would say "Why? I already put in for my vacation. I did all my work, you said it was fine and I have to go to _____(fill in space)." Now, if it is only for one day and they are giving me overtime, enough overtime to change my mind, then I would probably go. Other then that, I am busy. do the work for yourself. That is why you are the boss and get paid more money.

First of all, don't answer-- that is what caller ID is for.
If you answer, just tell them that you have plans and that you can not change them. Don't be any more specific, because then you are taking a risk that your boss will disagree with the importance of your plans. Remember, it is YOUR day off and you can spend it any way you like--even sleeping.

If I have nothing planned for the day, I simply ask if I come in today can I take (insert day) off instead? Or if I have plans, I tell him, I am sorry but I already have my day scheduled, I am sorry.

Turn your phone off, or play not at home, that way your boss can't reach you and put you on the spot...

1) If its the day of your day off, like that morning, "Sorry, I've made plans I can't cancel."

2) If its the day before or that week, "Let me check with my girlfriend (boyfriend) and see what our schedule is." Then ... "No."

3) Every so often, ask HIM if he can substitute for YOU.

"Sorry, too short notice. I have too many other plans today."

Otherwise, if you have caller ID (like MOST phones), just don't answer!
