I am 14 years of age,I live in Canada and am question whether we truly have freedom.I know a boy whom will remain nameless, who gave a negative remark about our Prime minister, now as rude as he was,he was givin a week of detention. However I believe that he should be able to say what he wants, because is this not a country of freedom? If I were to say to the prime minister to his face "In my opinion sir,you are a malefic, idiotic, fool!" would I not be punished?I begin to feel as though there is not such a thing called freedom.

First of all, there are rights and responsibilities. For every right you enjoy (freedom of speech) there are responsibilities (respecting other people's rights.) Think of it this way: everyone has the right to feel safe and to not be slandered. If you were the Prime Minister, and someone goes up to you and calls you an "idiotic fool", would that not anger you? Freedom of speech only lasts if you are respectful of the rights of others. You will be punished if you infringe on everyone else's rights, so I guess freedom is limited.

In the end, it depends on your definition of freedom. I think of freedom as more of a privilege. But if you see freedom as being able to do anything you wish, then to you there would be no true freedom.

No you would not be punished and your school is wrong for suspending you. You are young and the one thing you must realize is that not every thing that happens to you is your fault or that every disciplinary action is correct. There is freedom, the fact that you can post this is proof. Don't lose hope for life. Just go to school, graduate, and work your way to a position in which you can make a change.

freedom warring parties ended whilst they have been given the gaza strip administration. then they basically grew to become person-friendly terrorists the place adolescents have been given $500 paid to their family members as quickly as they blew themselves up on a crowded bus in Israel.

IT'S FREEDOM WITH STRINGS ATTACHED. YOUR FRIEND SHOULD NOT BE CHASTISED FOR HIS OPINION. YOU SHOULD FORM A PROTEST AND LET YOUR SCHOOL LEADERS KNOW THAT AN OPINION IS SACRED AND IS ALLOWED TO ALL.
