Go start then click on that, open up Control panel by clicking that and then click onto Performance and Maintence, click on that then click on Power options. You will see a small page appear and just use the cursor key to click on how long you want the pc to stay on before it goes onto stanby or turns monitor off.

Meant to say, select your own times then click apply and after that ok and screen will dissapear and pc will stay on indefinitely till you turn it off.

The first things i would check are the power options in the control panel, you check these by going to:

Start
All Programs
Control Panel
& double click on power options.

Check the settings on the power schemes tab, the computer might be set to swtich off, or to go into standby after a certain time, but you can change these onn the schemes tab.

If this PC is a laptop the chances are it will have a different menu for changing the power schemes, although the principal is all the same.

It could be overheating, check that the fans on your power suply and heatsink are working. Buy a can of air duster and give the insides a good clean out.

Check the power settings to make sure you haven't set it t oturn off after so long without use. Right click on the screen, select properties - screen saver - power.

Failing that, if it has been over 12 months since you installed windows or bought the PC, its time to re install windows or restore the pc back to shop condition. This will fix the problem but make sure you save any documents, photos etc first, as you will loose everything!

Hope this helped you.

Mine was doing this a few weeks ago.

I spent ages trying to find out what was wrong and finally (after about a week of problems) traced it through to.... dust. It was overheating.

I gave the PC a good clean out and it's been perfect ever since.

I'm not saying this is your problem but it might be worth a clean up before you start playing around with everything else.

Good luck.

it might be set to do so after a while if its not being used, like a power saving option on the screen saver. right click on your desktop and then go to properties and then screen saver after that go on power... have a little look around on that it might be set to hibernate after a certain about of time or turn of disk drives. if not then its probli broke or someone is turning it off as a joke when you turn away to make you paranoid...lol
