The unit quit working, thinking that it was the battery, a new one was installed. This did not solve the problem. Any ideas?

Holding the lock and ulock button works for factory remotes, if out of sync.
But you said remote starter.....Which leads me to believe that you do not have a factory remote so the above will not work.
Pontaic made the Aztec from 2001-2005 and none of them had factory remote start. The 2005 was the first year Pontiac ever offered factory remote start.
If you could tell us what aftermarket system you have installed we could give you an answer.

Remote start is an aftermarket deal on the Aztec. Check out any info you have on the unit and research it that way. The other answers may work, but may not.
