The new smoky eye is about using taupes and mink browns rather than the deep dark colors formerly used.
My advice would be to get either Stila's Barefoot Contessa or Nars Blondie as your lid color; both are subtely shimmery and light brown/beige in color.
Not only will this color look a lot more modern than black/brown/blue, but will bring out the blue in your eyes.
Finally, line your eyes with black/dark brown liner; smudge and blend until there's not a line but rather a dark shadow left. Finish with black mascara on top lashes only. This is how to get the "smoldering" look.

Its all in the technique and brushes!! If you have blue eyes, colors like brown and black are great!! It really makes your eyes pop. Try using like a nice light color on the lid like a nude since you said you wanted to go subtle. On the crease of the eye you can use dark brown or gray (again subtle since black may be to heavy) so that you can get that smokey eye look. A good brush to use is the crease blending blush that you can pick up at sephora.
Hope that helps,

the best way to achieve the look is by adding a wine or burgundy color just above your lash line and slowly fill in to where you think looks sexy (generally just covering the lid that closes over the eye is more than enough) apply some mascara and a little of the eyeshadow on the bottom lid closet to your nose (don't over-line, otherwise you get the raccoon thing going) and Voila... subtle sexiness that no one can stop staring at.

Well, Moonlitetahiti to get the smokey eyes look you should use grey contacts, or a soft brown. Then you use black eye liner, to bring it out. After that you use your lash enhancer. The trick is you only use black makeup. Also you must surround the eyes with black makeup, that would give you the smokey look.

i dont know about the smoky type look, maybe smudge silver/grey eyeliner gently, or smudge eyeshadow slightly. Something like that! And i really agree with you about 'movie stars' they always look perfect......grrrr! :)

i like smokey eyes. that's what i positioned on every day. o.k., you would be wanting 2 varieties of eyeshadows: one mild, for highlighting and making a tender floor on your eye, and one darkish for making the entire smoky factor take place. you will additionally desire black eyeliner (i like liquid yet pencil works merely besides). and black mascara. the 1st step: carry on with eyeliner. for sublety, merely carry on with it on the authentic lashline. for extra drama, thinly line the backside besides. for large-dramatic, night-time seems, lne the interior your lids besides. be careful! and don't proportion eyeliner with acquaintances. step 2: carry on with the mild coloration (i desire a shimmery pearl coloration; each and every physique seems solid in it) each and each of ways out of your authentic lashes to impressive below your eyebrows. (some human beings swap steps one and 2; use whichever way is least confusing for you) step 3: carry on with the darker coloration. reckoning on the form of your lids, you are able to variety the place you certainly carry on with it. in case your lids are hooded and you have a crease there, merely carry on with it from impressive above the crease to anyplace you decide on below the brow. this gives you you the smokuy eye factor without making your eyes look smaller. yet once you do not have a crease on your lids, you are able to carry on with it from the lashline up. step 4: end with 3 coas of black mascara and you're completed! have relaxing, and that i desire that facilitates!
