I know that with contra dancing, you see men in skirts which allows them to move more freely and is a lot more cooler. I would think this would also apply to Scotish, etc., that are requiring a lot of movement. I know as a woman, it makes a lot of difference with dancing that wearing a skirt is more comfortable and cooler. So, it makes sense for guys to do the same.

JENNIFER THEY ARE NOT SKIRTS THEY ARE CALLED KILTS. THEY ARE A PART OF THEIR SCOTTISH CULTURE JUST LIKE MY CULTULRE WHICH IS JAMAICAN LIKE REGGAE MUSIC AND LOVE TO COOK RICE& PEAS EVERY SUNDAY.
