EDIT: Its not a bad reference. It was a backround check but he was never charged with anything. the problem did not leave the branch it was settled there and then the chain got involved but he was never charged with anything. As for his mistake, he ate some bags of chips and the branch was real enough to charge him for those but not the chain is suing for almost 10 times that. we just need legal advice as to how to unblacklist him and what can be done about the suing??

How is he 'blacklisted' from working at other companies? Was this 'mistake' actually better defined as 'a crime' and its now on his record when background checks are performed? Or did he settle for deferred adjudication or something of the sort which also has to be discussed often when pursuing employment? That's the only way I can see his past 'mistake' interfering with obtaining new employment.
Pieces are missing to this puzzle. Your boyfriend should seek legal advice and you might want to sit this one out and wait for the end result.

If he feels his friends are retarded, you can't really force him to meet them. Frankly, you can not solve his problems, because he has to solve his problems by himself. But still there's a lot that you can do. You need to love him more. (I am advising quite the opposite of what you indicate in your question. You say that you don't want to stay with an opposite person...). You need to encourage him on a daily basis. He probably needs a new job. Encourage him to get a new job. He will be able to put his life back into the correct perspective only when he can free his mind from the negative thoughts like bad work, retarded friends, etc. For this you need to distract him from these negative thoughts. You can do this by asking him to go out with you for evening walks or some good place when he comes back. Or just forget about the bad times, and tease each other and have fun like kids. Really, it would help. If you can make him laugh and smile enough every day, things will fall into place automatically. Try it and see.

Your boyfriend sounds fishy. I think he did something because it is illegal to give bad references in the U.S.
I worked in HR so I had to check and give references, and most of the questions were:
1. Time of employment
2. Salary
3. Rehireable.
Not being rehireable doesn't mean you can't get another job. I got fired from a job and found one soon enough to replace it, and I still used them as part of my resume.
If the chain is suing him he has every right to get the paper work for his case.
Your boyfriend is HIDING something from you.
He is outsmarting you too, since he said he was blacklisted and you didn't even know that it's not possible, unless you are an actor in the 1970's.
In other words, I hope you don't live with him, it just sounds like an excuse for him not wanting to get a job soon enough.
He can get an attorney, all they have to do is look at his case to see if he can be represented.
Ask your boyfriend more questions like you are trying to help him out, and you will see there might be discreptancies in his story or he might get mad at you for trying to help.
These are signs that something is going on.

A lot of companies do background checks on people and determining on the circumstance on his termination it probably wouldn't be too surprising the he hasn't gotten a job right away. Be patient, some people like take risks on those people who just simply made a mistake. As for the lawsuit I'm certain there are free services out there for representation, though I cannot say offhand what they are. I'd Google it or something.

How can they "blacklist" him? Can't he just not list them as a reference? Or when he applies, state exactly what happened? I can't imagine an employer wouldn't listen to his side of things.
As far as the legal matter goes, he needs a lawyer. It's just that simple. I'm not sure what this "mistake" was, but this is for a judge to decide.

Well they are not allowed to give bad references that is illegal. also agreeing to something that makes you look guilty even if it was premised to be designed to quote rectify the situation allows your for lack of other words enemy to use that as an admission of guilt.
What are they charging him with I may be able to present you a defense?

Legal Aid might be of some help. They are lawyers that do it for free. They are government affiliated to help the people. And yes it is illegal for them to bad refrence him.

I am very sorry for you to have taken this one on as your problem. Was he in property management, BTW? If PRG Reality rings a bell, then contact me. Otherwise, I can't help you.

You need to get the REAL information that your boyfriend isn't telling you.
You are only getting part of the story.
