last week, when i was in dr office, she had mentioned that i was 2 1/5 cm dilated, and 75% effaced. well last night i went to the er b/c i felt like i was having contractions.well they checked me and said i was only 1 1/5 post exterior, 50% effaced, and -2. is this normal? i feel like i need to find a new doctor.

also, i have a dr appt. tomorrow and want to talk to him about inducing, what would be a good way of bringing this up and is it possible to induce me right now?

It isn't possible for every Dr to measure you the same. Everyone's fingers are different sizes. This to me would not be a reason to change Dr's!

except walking that is assume to assist the baby position there isnt to a lot you are able to do this will truly bring about exertions. you are able to ask you ob to strip your membranes which may actually help bypass issues alongside yet because youre in straight forward words 38 wks you technically have 2 weeks left so your dr would no longer be prepared to do this. Im 39 wks 4days and Im with you on the uncomfortableness and the sleeplessness. also you ob might want to be doing an inner a week from now until eventually the baby is born, its how they examine your cervix to be sure if youre thinning and/or dilating. they could also examine the little ones hight this way i.e. its station from -4 to 4...-4 being intense in the pelvis.

you really shouldnt be induced without a good medical reason. it is better/easier for you and baby if your body is ready for labor. it does sound as if your dr. was wrong though. that is strange. ive never heard of anyone going back in effacement. you should ask him to check you again at your appt. and tell him what the ppl at the ER said. also, there is a procedure he might do where he separates your amniotic sac from the wall of your uterus. sometimes this induces labor, if your close. you might also try walking and having sex (make sure he ejaculates in you though), this is how i "induced" my labor.

Wait a minute......... You are not overdue. Your baby may not be ready to be born as due dates are not carved in stone and can be weeks off. Your baby needs to mature. If you haven't delivered by 41 weeks, then start thinking about it.

Effacement and dilated are subjective from medical professional to medical professional. It's checked by finger-breadth and is not an exact thing.

I think you are just becoming impatient. Just a couple more weeks - Hang in there!

38 weeks is pretty late in the game to find a new doctor to handle your pregnancy and delivery.

since you are not yet overdue, I would hold off on asking to be induced. the pain is much worse when you are induced and your baby would likely benefit from a few more weeks in the womb. that's when their lungs do the most developing.

you've come this far in the pregnancy, just hang in there and realize your baby needs these precious days to fully develop and mature. please just be patient and realize your baby's health is at stake. use this time to get lots and lots of rest!

Its highly possible that with 2 different people they are measuring differently. MY doc checked me I was at 1 cm...a student Dr came in...and I knew that she didn't even find my cervix (its high) and told me that Iwas 2 cm...If you don't need to be induced(if there are no problems) I wouldn't rush it...

first of all if your 38 weeks its too late for you to find another doctor because alot of them wont take you if your past 32 weeks. And if you went to the emergency room and they sent you home you should be fine. My son is two weeks now and my doctor forgot to fax my info to the hospital where i was giving birth to my son which means when i got there they didn't have any of my records and i had to give natural birth with NO MEDICATION. Please if you want to do the epidural remind your doctor to send in your information. But don't worry about anything, you'll be fine. You've made it this far your pretty much finished. CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK
