Peter Schmeichel is probably the greatest goalie Man Utd ever had and he is from Denmark. He is Denmark's most capped player with 129 caps to his name.

He was voted the best goalkeeper in the world in 1992 and 1993. In 1992, he was a key member of the Denmark squad who won the European Football Championship in Sweden in 1992, beating Germany 2-1 in the final.

In 1999, he was a key member of the Manchester United side who lifted the Uefa Champions League, beating Bayern Munich 2-1 in the final in Barcelona.

His nickname was The Great Dane, testament to his commanding 6ft 4in frame which allowed him to initimidate opposition forwards in his penalty area and all made him a threat in the opposition penalty area. He often came up for corners and freekicks if his side were still chasing the game in injury time. He actually scored 17 goals throughout his playing career, which is quite a feat for a goalkeeper.

After leaving Manchester United, he went to Sporting Lisbon, but soon found himself back playing in the Premiership playing for Aston Villa. His career eventually ended in 2003 at Manchester City.

He is recognised as the 7th greatest goalkeeper of the 20th century alongside great names like Gordon Banks and Lev Yashin.
