If a person is drinking and dating 14 other people and is single- who cares. If they're married with kids, it changes the story.

It just comes to mind. It's something people have in common or not. If you've never been married and don't have any kids, you don't know exactly what it's like to be married or divorced and have kids. Neither is better. We all make choices or mistakes. No one should judge you based on this information. If they do, that's their problem.

Small talk. Society expects you to start sexual life at age X, engage into a serious relationship at age Y and be married with children at age Z. Sometimes people think small. But if it is just small talk I wouldnt worry. Anyway I agree with you that it is a pity people never come up with more creative, less predictable and more inteligent questions for a change when they are trying to get to know someone better.

I don't gossip, but I think it's very important to know whether someone is married (regardless of whether they have kids). Maybe people just want to get to know you.
I'm Married. Happily. My kid is grown with a wife of his own.

you should be glad you are not deaf. We Deaf Culture are like that and what worst we are small world that we know everyone in usa. Everyone knows who I am... They come up to me says I heard that you are married or your wife having baby, or what ever it is they know more about me than I know about gossip people.
You should be glad you are hearing and millions o fpeople don't know you at all. but deaf people sure know about my history.worst than finding out on news or newspaper or suns stuff like that.

Ease up. In order to get to know someone you ask. You look to see what you have in common in order to start communication on subjects that you both can relate to.
