The nurse is right, applesauce doesn't help diarrhea. Doctors (with the exception of your's) say to stay away from foods such as applesauce, bananas, potatoes, and many other foods until the diarrhea gets better.

In some cases apple juice really is a laxative but the hospital says to do the BRAT diet when you are sick with diarrhea which is BANANAS , RICE (white), APPLESAUCE . PLAIN TOAST.

Applesauce (made without the peel) is safe to eat if the baby has diarrhea. Apples (with the peel) is good for constipation.
Bananas without the stringy parts are good for diarrhea. Bananas with the stringy parts are good for constipation.

Applesauce = yes, I've heard that applesauce/ juice helps bowel movements but it didnt work in my baby's case.

Edit: misread- i was talking about constipation, which clearly isnt your problem.

Use something like Pedialyte until you clear up the problem.
