If you look in the phone book under vetinarians, many of the ads in the yellow pages will tell you what the vet specializes in. Several of the ads in our phone book state that the vet does equine dentistry.

While most vets can float teeth, it is a really good idea to have someone that is trained in equine dentistry to do the job at least every once in a while. Those that have more training can spot potential problems, and can help prevent further troubles (and bigger bills later).

A vet that does equine dentistry won't just reach up there and file down the teeth (float them). The vet will use several other tools, and should be able to shine a light in the mouth and let you look up there and see for yourself. If you don't understand what they are telling you, simply ask them to explain it.

Good luck.

Call the Vet, They will do the best job and will know what kind of drug dosages to us if your horse needs it. If your Vet doesn't do it, ask who they recommend.
