Amazing and scary. The timing of the chicks comment was bad, considering the mentality of the nation at the time. But it was another convenient way for the GWB administration to put their foot on the throat of someone disagreeing with their agenda. It wasn't enough to have the congress and the judiciary, they had to have the entertainment industry. I guess when you have Toby and Brittany Spears, you have all you need.

Both Toby Keith and The Dixie Chicks are talented, but that's not the point. The point is, both Toby Keith and Natalie Maines (of the Chicks) have been outspoken about their political convictions (as is their right to be), and Mr. Keith's opinions just happened to be more reflective of the mainstream (at the time). Death threats are unacceptable at any time. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Celebrities just get more media coverage for theirs. End of "story".

1) I don't know who Toby Keith is or what he has said.
2) I don't really care.
3) Everyone has the right to voice their opinions.
4) This includes the right to criticize the opinions voiced by others.
5) Death threats are unacceptable.
6) I won't get into the fight over the Dixie Chicks talent or lack thereof.

To the best of my knowledge no one has stopped the Dixie Chicks from expressing themselves. What people have done is express their discontent with what has been said by boycotting concerts and record sales. Now if there are death threats this is wrong, but I will remind you that people who counter protested Cindy Sheehan were also subject to death threats so don't presuppose that it is limited to one side. I do find it amusing though that you call someone who speaks of traditional American values as a knee jerk reactionary while speaking of people who insulted those same values as though they were saints. The simple fact is that country music fans tend to be very patriotic in their thinking. This is difference in why the 2 are treated differently by the same fans. One endears while the others insult. Figure it out!

You are guilty of the same thing....think about it, Mr. Keith is a knee-jerk reactionary while the Dixie Chicks are talented and exercising their free speech. It's hard to keep your emotions out of our very pubic opinions, isn't it? Now imagine having millions of fans, and haters alike, analyzing your every syllable that passes over your lips. It's scary. I agree with the other replies that reiterate the fact that what keeps these musicians behind a microphone is their talent and NOT their political views, thank goodness!

Well because Toby Keith knows what his audience likes and sadly the Dixie Chicks do not.

Because if someone sent a death threat to Toby Keith, he'd put their name at the top of his list, track them down, and put a boot in their a$$.
It's the American way.

The kinds of people who make death threats are more likely to feel threatened by what the Dixie Chicks have to say. Hold on, looks like I have a couple in my inbox.

When ever someone says something or does something they
have to be willing to pay the consequences of what they said
or did.
I will give the Dixie Chicks credit for one thing. They didn't
whine about it. Why are you?
Thank you very much, while you're up!!!
