I think each person who has given Oprah "thumbs down" for her question has a different reason. I have personally never understood why thumbs up or down was ever even an option for questions asked. Everyone is entitled to be inquisitive - that's how people learn and evolve. I used to work at a childcare center and I was asked some pretty wild questions from many different children. I always did my best to answer and never discouraged them from continuing to ask. How can a child (or adult for that matter) ever grow and achieve... if questions are never asked? Anyway, whether or not Oprah's intentions are self-riteous or legitimately done for the goodness of others isn't for me to determine, having never met the lady. What I do know is she has built her own empire and is more or less a self-made billionaire - I don't think it came easy to her. The fact that she would even consider giving away gifts or money to anybody says something. She doesn't have to. Nowhere is it written that Oprah needs to share her wealth with any other person. So she asks 'how you would use $1000 to help another' and people immediately get on their "bash Oprah soap box" and spread negativity when, in fact, the gesture she's suggesting is actually a positive one. *shrugs* I'm not one to judge her or anybody else. Any question asked (in my opinion) is worthy of an answer. And if somebody doesn't like the question... instead of acting out of spite and giving it a thumbs down... should just not answer it and move on. Life is too short to finger point and whine. Perhaps we should all be reminded "'tis the season to be jolly".

I don´t think anybody is against helping people, it is the way Oprah does everything. She always portraits herself as the good Samaritan when most of the times all what she gives away she got it free from the shops or companies. It is not that she makes any sacrifices or goes one day to a hospital without reporters and spends a day helping just for helping and not because of the propaganda. She is fake.

It's more publicity for Oprah and she's too full of herself and wealthy to realize that 1,000 bucks isn't going to change anybody's life. She probably has shoes that cost several times more than that.

Because it's just a publicity gimmick. Do you really think Oprah is going to read all those answers? Or anybody at all read all those answers?

people shouldn't be given money to help someone, it makes them get off the helping wagon too early. Like I give money to the child, but I am just helping alittle, but feeding the homeless makes a difference. Money is the root of all evil. Plus there might be some racists out there or people are so judgmental

I've gotten thumbs down on here for no reason at all except for having a different opinion. I've even gotten one for telling someone they were sweet for doing volunteer work. Go figure. I think some people on here just give out thumbs down for the hell of it.
See what I mean (the thumbs downs)
