There is nothing wrong with that. Its normal and besides you are old enough to read romance novels. Your parents need to lighten up its just a book

I'm not a lady nor do I play one on tv, but my wife does write romance novels. You didn't mention if the book in question was an adult-themed book. If so, it probably was inappropriate for your age group. I think a lot of young girls like to read romance, but keep it in perspective to your age. Don't try to grow up too fast. Remember that romance novels are heavy on the fantasy and not at all like the real world.
And by the way, please note that I used the same words you misspelled.

I'm not a lady. I used to teach high school English.
As I understand them, romance novels come in varying degrees of "heat". Some even have a rating on the cover, like taco sauce.
You might get your parents to set some limits on the level of explicit sex they allow you to read - hand holding or necking or more. Then have a librarian suggest some authors who keep to those limits.
A note from your English teacher or school librarian to your dad and step mom would not hurt. At least you are reading; many teens don't.

i started reading mills and boon books at the age of 12
My mother never had a problem with it. Some thing inappropriate would be the erotic novels such as the sleeping beauty trilogy.
Any way, if she has a problem with you reading simple romance novels, just point out to her that Romeo and Juliet is much more violent, sexy etc etc and is required reading for most 14yr olds in britain

Well somethings are a little to pornish in romance novels but it is normal. But don't get the book involved in your life. I've found that alot of women get there romantic ideas from books that are to far fetched.

i know how you feel, except i was never stopped from reading. i was reading way beyond my comprehension, but i didn't care. i still will read just about anything. romance novels are just stories, like any fiction novel, not to be taken too seriously, and why in the world would they care if you are reading smut? would they feel the same way if you were reading religious material? not of their particular religion or spirituality? what about history or politics, would they consider that offensive? and current events, can you read about them and form your own opinion without being ridiculed? at 16, if you still like to read for entertainment, do it, and do it often.

I started to read them at that age. Most are filled with sometimes graphic sex (It doesn't mean you'll go out and do it yourself. I haven't done the deed and I'm 23 - I still read them when I get the chance.). Your parents aren't really wrong in not wanting you to read them. But, I can't judge.. I read them.
Just make sure that they aren't the only books you read.

Becky, you may want to read all the words in your romance novels. then maybe you could spell a bit better! Better still, use the Check Spelling feature before you send your mail!

I do not see anything wrong with them as long as they are not more intimate than a make out session. Like stories like Jean Auel's Valley of the Horses and stuff like that-well yeah, that is innapropriate, but if it is on the teen shelf at borders than it is meant for teens!

i don't read those novels, but i don't think theres anything wrong with you reading them if your mature enough.
but if you read them all the time i can see how they would bother you parents.
if you read them not as often then i don't think they would have much of a problem especially if you were reading different kinds of books as well.
hope this helps a bit :)
