My friend wants one for christmas and I don't know what to get her. She wants emo, but maybe something a bit.... happier. Nothing metal, but nothing to soft.
She likes bands like Green Day, My Chemical Romance, that sorta thing, but she may want to explore new genres.

She might like the Foo Fighters or Nirvana
The Foo Fighters are a good choice because they rock good but their songs can sort of be hilarious and a good time, so I'd ge her that just because she can rock to the Foo, all the while laughing at some of their other songs.

I would just like to say, Green Day is the best band in the entire universe. My Chemical Romance is also amazing. Get her some older Green Day or Anti-Flag. Anti-Flag is really good and it's punk-ish. If you want to test it, go to iTunes and try THE PRESS CORPSE.

Hmm... perhaps Leaves' Eyes might be good. Within Temptation may be even better but they are a bit metal (not hardcore metal). These bands would be well worth looking at.

Has she got the Black Parade (MCR)? Or Warning (Green Day)?
See. My favourite bands are MCR and Green Day, and they're my favourite albums by them...
But if you want to get her something different...perhaps Bring me the Horizon, Paramore, The Automatic, Senses Fail, The Used...
Of course, you'd have to check she doesn't have their CDs before you buy them.
