There is always food to eat - try grass. eating the family pet is inhumane.

Well if there was no food left then it would mean the pets were starving too. It may get to a point where ending their life was the only humane thing to do. Once dead that which you loved is gone. The body is just an empty shell and if it keeps one going a bit longer then you owe it to your pet to do what you have to do.

Perhaps put simply; you know your pet would give its life for you.

You need to ask yourself first - could you bring yourself to KILL the family pet, which of course is a no for 99% of the population, if it died from starvation before you which it is likely to do then i think most people may be able to eat it then. But if there is not food anywhere on the horizon then you are just prolonging your own agony, but hey like its ever gonna happen!!

If you looked into the faces of your human family and saw the life slipping away you would do anything I think to help --It would be most unpleasant but what would be worse feeding your starving parent or child or having to bury them because you wanted to save the pet that too will more than likely starve too

Well it depends really .. I havent actually been in that situation of having no food ..Thankfully! So If it was the case that i had no food the poor pet or pets would starve also..even worse if its a Dog as it might try and eat you first if its starvin...or Mabe the maniac Neighbours might come and kill ya for it...!!!??? so i think i would leave it anyway and die in dignity...:)

no i couldnt i had to go through this as a child as my parents bred rabbits for meat but they were still like pets to me and it was horrid to be forced to eat the pet i had played with and looked after only the previous day It is a cruel and inhumane thing to do and would rather starve than eat any of my many pets

Well... your pet gets as muhc love as you love your mum or dad. your pet is apart of the family aswell. but if it's something that you can see in a nearly dead situration then you should still not eat it. we are animals you don't see me eating my best friend when i'm hungry and my mum says no food.

Absolutely not. I would feed my dogs first. Same if I had kittens or bunnies, any species at all.
A pet is a companion, and deserves the best one can offer them!

I eat meat but could not imagine eating any of my cats even if I was dying of starvation - I have humanised my cats far too much and to kill one and to eat one would give me nightmares for the rest of my life - I love them all far to much - I would eat anything else, never my own cats though - thats like asking if I would eat my own child

If I didnt have a substantial amount of cash to feed myself I would not have pets and if I suddenly found myself in a situation where I did not have the funds to feed myself then im sure my pets would be re-homed.

This has to be the most stupid thing I ever read!!!
