America is seen as the most poweful country in the world. I'm still not sure what exactly does America contribute to the world?

Interesting that most who hate America just can not stay out of America. Simple, if not happy here, just leave. But don’t hate us and take advantage of what our system provides. Freedom and opportunity. Try Cuba or any of the countries that hate America. There you can not even get free access to internet information. What you're doing in this site you can not do in those countries. Those countries don’t have problems with illegal immigration. They usually have to keep their people from leaving to America. We are getting overcrowded with people who can not make it in their countries, yet they come here, work and earn $$ to send back to their country. Hate me, but don’t use me!
We provide others oportunities that otherwise they would never have. Nevertheless, because we are able to provide and not beg, others hate us.

Here is a list of dollar amounts going to foreign countries and the United States is at the top of the list.

Official Development Assistance (ODA) in 2005 ODA in U.S. Dollars (MILLIONS)
Source: OECD Web site

USA 27,457
Japan 13,101
UK 10,754
France 10,059
Germany 9,915
Netherlands 5,131
Italy 5,053
Canada 3,731
Sweden 3,280
Spain 3,123
Norway 2,775
Denmark 2,107
Belgium 1,975
Switzerland 1,771
Australia 1,666
Austria 1,552
Finland 897
Ireland 692
Greece 535
Portugal 367
New Zealand 274
Luxembourg 264

And that's just the money end of it. Why is it that we are asked for our help when other countries can't handle their own problems? If we hadn't entered WWII there'd be a whole continent of people speaking German in Europe, and most likely in a good portion of the rest of the world. Not exactly ancient history either, there are still many people alive who served and suffered in WWII. We are the first to respond, at their request, when other nations find themselves in trouble, whether it be politically, financially, or due to natural disaster.

Could the world go on without America? I suppose so, but they wouldn't be nearly as well funded, or well protected thanks to the big stick we carry. If you don't like Americans, so be it, but please don't pretend we don't matter in the world. It's a ridiculous notion.

We fight everyone else's wars evidently. Without us, the Middle East would tear each other apart.

Besides that...we have Hollywood! The original Disneyland, and numerous natural wonders....people travel from all over the world to see America....the Statue of Liberty, Golden Gate Bridge, Sears Tower, the Florida Keys, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountains. And American animals too.....the Bald Eagle or White Tailed Deer....Grizzly Bears.

What would the world do without America? I think it's a matter of what wouldn't they have the chance/opportunity to do that is more important. Why do you think so many are busting down the fence to get in?

I don't think America is seen like that anymore. Was seen......appears to be more accurate. By now I figure the world could go along just fine without us. It's us I'm worried about.

If your not sure what America contributes to the world, then you are absolutly the most uneducated person alive. Not everything America does is grand and great, But there are some very very serious and wonderful things America and its people do for the rest of the world.

Learn! It wont hurt you, I promise!

The U.S is needed in the world to uphold peace in different troublespots. The middleeast would be trashed without U.S presence there. So as an international peacekeeper it`s needed.

I dont care about Hollywood, american celebs, & such drivel.
coz THAT the world will surely go on without.

Yes it would.

Russia and China would take over immediately, if something "sudden" happened to america.

Economy would boost like never before, for a couple of years all over the globe, to mention some other "advantages... ;)

you really should change your politicians there, so that we dont have to dream so negative things like disappearing of the America ;)

Interesting question...

Trouble is that USA dominates so many aspects in this world...
the media, the political climate, the economy, educational standards, values etc... this makes it truly difficult to envision a world without their omnipresence in our lives....
