The maximum recommended time is 72 hours. It is MUCH more effective the earlier you take it. I have seen it prescribed as late as 5 days after intercourse, but at that point it's pretty much shutting the barn door after the horse was stolen.

Many of the currently prescribed morning after pills will work up to 72 hours after intercourse. Of course the sooner you take it the better chance of it working.

24 hours after intercourse..but then it is even recommended that you take the morning after pill within 12 hours of intecourse..but 24 is the maximum

There is one pill you get @ the pharmacy its called "PLAN B" also known as the 72 hour pill so if this is your pill of choce then its up to 72 hours after intercourse. you take one pill as soon as you get the medicine and 1 pill exactly 12 hours later!

the morning after pill usually works for up to 3 days after the little, uhm, "accident" but is most effective if taken within 24hours

Yes, 24 hours after but definatly not 49 days! You don't need a prescription for it anymore, you can go to your pharmacy and ask them for it.
