The best way to do that is go direct through caterpillar via their direct reinvestment progam ( DRIP ).

Their # is: 309.675.4619

Don't buy through a traditional broker if you can help it due to the high overall commission.

Some of the above are decent suggestions, but you should open something that will allow anyone to contribute, such as a college savings program like a 529. You can also easily setup an automatic billpay to it, that can add a little ($10 a month) to a lot. Dollar cost average is amazing, so instead of giving to her once, give to her all the time for a long period of time and you will have a large sum in the long run, that does not require much from you throughout. Good idea either way. Starting that young is great.

Yes, you can easily do that either through Caterpillar or any brokerage company. You'll need her social security number, and you or someone at least the age of 18 must serve as custodian on the account until the child is of age.

You can but you will need her social security number or that of a parent.

The IRS wants their taxes on any gains no matter who or how old !

Call the company direct and see if they offer a direct stock purchase plan. You will not need a broker to do it then.

WAY TO GO !!! Investing is such a great gift for a child of any age !!! Pat yourself on the back!!!

I not in any respect deliver stuff up like this to my acquaintances. i detect the party of my birthday a waste of human beings's time and funds. If my acquaintances do it for me, large, i will thank them overtly. in the journey that they don't, that is truly no biggy. As for his or her birthdays, it truly relies upon on my project on the time, yet better usually than no longer, i might want to wish them a cheerful birthday with a card stated through a dinner or some beverages on me. no longer something too fancy.
