I'm not convinced that most students do -- but there are certainly a lot who do major in these fields.
It might have something to do with the fact that they can actually get jobs when they graduate.

They do? Where? I think Business may be one of the more popular majors, since it can be applied to different fields, but higher education in America is a whole lot more diverse than you're crediting here. There's not a business major in my entire family. We have one med, two law, one vet school, one pharmacy school, one education, one engineering, one nursing, one English writing, one math, and one computer sciences major. Not a business major in sight!

For some, it's because thats where a lot of the money and power is. For some others, they made that decision because they're not really sure what they want to do with their lives and so they pick those to see how it goes.
